Dads Are Different Than Moms – That’s a Good Thing For Kids

It’s a good thing that dads are different from moms – kids need them to be! In many families, mothers may send the message that they know the “right” way to deal with children and may take more time to care for them. But kids need dad’s style too, so make sure you get plenty of time with your kids.

All children should learn from their fathers—about the world, how language works, how fathers treat others, and how they do things.

Fathers can develop their interests, skills, and personality to help their children grow and learn. Here are some ideas on how to make the most of what you do best. If you are:

1. Exercisers and exercise enthusiasts – Do this every day. Physical activity makes children better prepared mentally and physically for learning. Follow up exercise with calm activities such as creating something, reading or “talking” a book together, or playing a game.

2. Creative style – Use your imagination and creativity to build your child’s racing cars and trains out of boxes just to play. Create a daily “schedule” for your child to do stimulating activities. Organize lots of free games and play with parents. Carefully plan any TV or movie viewing to see how much activity your child is exposed to on a daily basis, and replace watching more than an hour a day with beneficial activities. Get ready to turn off the TV more than it is now. Even the TV that is “in the background” has been proven to be detrimental to children’s language development because parents talk and do less with the child when the TV is on.

3. Professional thinkers – Take lots of digital photos of your child at family events, print the best ones, and create a storybook of every place you’ve gone together. Print or write the correct explanation of the sentences under each picture, according to your child’s language. Sit down with your child and review one of your favorite books every day. You can also set up a nice photo display for your child with one of the digital photo frames on the market. This can be especially helpful for a teenager who doesn’t have a lot of vocabulary. Take photos of ordinary or favorite things in his life, upload them into digital photos, and let the show begin!

4. Music lovers – Have a “jam” with your child and play a concert for the whole family. Create banners and visuals for your presentations.

5. Trick or Treat – Put on a play together or try a stand-up act or a magic trick. Find a suitable speaker for children. take a look at these great videos.

To encourage language development, give your child lots of direct feedback, and avoid asking too many questions. You are your son or daughter’s best mentor. Learn more about your childhood – share your talents and help your child grow.
