The Summer of 1843 (A Story Out of Chicago)

Arizona Blue, of course, couldn’t write or read any language for that matter, and she was only eleven years old; he pronounced one- to two-syllable words for the most part, as his vocabulary was simpler.

Later, I wanted to learn, but I was too anxious, busy fighting at school, working at home, always anxious, restless – without stopping.

Every morning, therefore, he headed down a road to school, with good intentions to go, but in the interest of the truth, I must say, he rarely arrives at school, Sid Milliard, a close friend, a year older . , they would wait for him somewhere along that path, he would wait for him, and most of the time he would find Blue, and they would go and get drunk in the nearby crematorium, putting their jugs of homemade whiskey on the gravestones, talking , drink, until they »D passes out of the moonshine Sid’s father made in the back of his store in Quincy, Illinois. His mother, Mary, simply said, “Son like father,” but she worried to the bone that he was not getting any proper education in reading or writing. But again she confessed to her sister Sally by letter: “In my life so perfect that I understand, Blue is like his father, in many ways, it is a more exquisite nuance for a son, but I loved”.

And in the summer of 1843, Sally invited the family to Chicago, the two sisters had an idea. (It must be said that Maria was really cleaver, well read, and well versed in the written word, and perhaps to a high degree also the unspoken word, because she was a survivor; her vocabulary was a master of intricate words if she wanted. to use; she was brought up in a female college, one which a famous poet attended in his time, in New England.)

Blue often thought, ‘If I had a third, just a measly third of my mother’s intellect, I would have ranked high among my peers, but she liked the art of fighting, and shooting, like to his father. And he was torn about the drinking part, but he drank anyway, often, but at his young age, it seemed more like an emulating thing, than anything else.

I think one could say that Blue’s father – in comparison to his mother – was extraordinarily simple, and many of his words were unspeakable, so, the communication was very deep in respect of his father, and the son l ‘he gave (father as son.; or the other way around), and of course this concerned Maria.

–One day after her arrival in Chicago, Maria introduced Blue to her aunt Sally Cowden, and her daughter, Sheila. She was all seventeen years old, and Blu of course six years younger, but he was great for his age, and serious in his composition, he took a sympathy, like white on rice, immediately. However, the two sisters enjoyed the summer together as Blue’s father worked on a farm outside of Quincy trying to get enough money together to go west once they got back to town in early September. .

As a result, the secret of Blue’s learning was actually connected to his attraction to Sheila, one Blue would never forget. That summer proved to be an intense study of words, reading, spelling, and Blue concentrated very deeply on it, it would be a period of time that he would never replicate again.

It began and ended with an innate and homogeneous tactile sympathy between Sheila and Blue—one that seemed to appear with an almost indescribable ease. As always his mind raced, and so, he took his daily lessons quite easily, and in time, he would become a teacher, the goal of his life.

But it would be back to Quincy for Blue and his mother, and then to the west, since his father had bought the wagon and the necessary supplies for the long journey, and in that journey is where Blue would gain his future reputation.
