How To Achieve Academic Excellence
Excellence is a quality of being exceptional; it is not a trait, so it cannot be inherited. There is no one way to achieve academic excellence; it is how you apply the principles that govern it that determines the outcome. Excellence comes with a price, only those who understand its value can pay for it. I would like to share with you some tips that can help you in your search for success; they are related but I’m sure you’ll find them interesting.
Put God first
God himself is a God of excellence, it is not surprising that he made all things perfect and endows his children with an excellent spirit. He has given you everything you need to succeed in everything you do, it’s just for you to believe and take advantage of his abundant resources. Do not allow your studies to compete with God’s time in your life because you need Him to support you and see you. I understand the place of prayer in your academics but it is not enough; remember that faith without works is dead, do your own part and do your best; pray as if you never read and read as if you never pray.
Many people have misplaced priority problems because they find it very difficult to order things according to their importance. You have to understand that your primary reason for being in school is to study to come out with good grades that will give you an edge in this highly competitive world; everything else is secondary like clubs, associations, parties, etc. How you channel your resources and spend your time is a function of what your preference scale is like. If your academic is important to you, you will invest your time, money and energy; you will do anything to get the right materials and textbooks to upgrade yourself and make you a better student, but if you pay more attention to trivial things; you may soon be on your way to failure.
Set a target
Don’t start your semester without having a sense of direction; if you don’t set an attainable goal for yourself, you will find out very late that you are studying aimlessly. Be ambitious and always aspire to be the best because you deserve it; don’t settle for less, believe in yourself, set plans and develop strategies to achieve them. Setting goals ignites your passion and this is the driving force that will propel you towards excellence. For example, when I arrived at the university, I was determined to do a First class; even when it seemed difficult, I continued to make sure I could do it and I kept pushing until I achieved it and today I share my success story.
Discipline is a very essential principle of excellence that is missing in the lives of many young people who hide under the shadow of the freedom to do something. Self-discipline is a conscious control of your lifestyle and you need to nurture it because it is one of the greatest weapons of success. Some students have worn indolence as a garment, nonchalance as a shoe and procrastination as a hat that they wear to travel the path of the wicked; they look in the mirror of stupidity with such satisfaction and say goodbye to their studies. They reach the end of the road only to see an ocean of failure; they skilfully plunged into it and continued to swim in confusion until they were swept away by a tide of destruction. You must be disciplined enough to have a study schedule that guides you like a map on a journey; be punctual for all lessons and complete your assignments without waiting for deadlines; be committed in your study time and you can be sure of remarkable results.
I’m not talking about a look, I mean condition your mind to an important goal that you must achieve. Know what you want and go for it with all determination, enthusiasm and optimism. Distraction can come in any form such as businesses, relationships, friends, families and so on; note that not many things can travel with you on the road to success; a lot of unwanted baggage had to be left behind because it could slow them down. There are things that can wait because they will always be there; However, if you cannot make sacrifices for your academics, then don’t think about excellence. Excellence is not thrown from a tree or a hill on the road; it takes a lot of commitment and discipline to achieve it. When your eyes are fixed on something, you cannot forget every detail and even when there are times when you are tempted to change the reasons, you turn back as soon as you recognize it because the further you go from your goals, the lower the chances of getting them.
Manage your time
As TIME is infinite, you cannot hold on to it; as the clock ticks and the seconds count, you get closer to your end, no matter how old you live. Time management is the act of controlling and organizing events as they are influenced by time; this has become a skill because many people are guilty of bad management. Although 24 hours have been increased to 48 hours in a day, many still complain that it is not enough. There is time for everything; time to admit and time to graduate, time to study and time to write exams. Procrastination has eaten deep into the mind of some students so that everything is always for a later date, they start their day without a proper planning of how to divide their time and instead of controlling the events, they end up being controlled by them, slump. in their beds at the end of each day I lose, wake up the next day worthless and remain the same. At the beginning of each semester, many busy with frivolity and when the exams are approaching; they start waiting for miracles, rush and muddle things up, write poorly prepared exams and expect fantastic results. Instead, make a deliberate effort to plan your day, make a list of events and appointments and make sure you are disciplined enough to meet them. Time is a free but non-renewable resource, so spend every moment wisely.
Keep the company right
Be it with whom you move, there are different types of companies that you can keep in an academic environment, but the choice of those who can do or walk is entirely up to you. Students form cliques for various reasons; to some, it gives them a feeling of importance while for others; it’s a way of being a part of something.
For good companies, it has to do with people of similar interests and goals, people of similar minds, passions and vision that have excellence as their watchword, people who believe in your dreams and are ready to push It can be a study group where you exchange ideas, learn and even teach others. Even if you want to develop independently, you cannot be an island because the more you share your knowledge, the more you know; Do not be afraid to make mistakes, you have to be correct, but remember that your clique can only help outside the exam room, to maximize the moments you share with them. If you have ever developed any form of academic apathy, the best thing to do is to talk about it; let people with positive thinking advise you and you will free yourself from poverty.
For bad companies on the other hand, your circle of friends are like viruses that corrupt your mind, cloud your thinking and make you lose yourself and your purpose of living. They lure you into all forms of vices like drugs, gambling, prostitution, cultism, internet fraud, examination malpractices and so on. If they determine the kind of life you lead, so powerful will be your fall and guess what – you just fall; some are in complete danger and looking for partners in bankruptcy. Quickly identify bad friends and disassociate them before they become entangled. Evil and Excellence both begin with the letter “E”, but they are two separate roads that you cannot travel at the same time.
Don’t copy others
Carve out your own niche; you know what you are capable of and how far you can go. Be yourself and never try to study like someone else; understand your learning model and develop your study style. Never compare yourself to someone else because people apply success principles differently; this is what I mean, for example, students in the same class who receive the same lesson in the same condition cannot assimilate at the same rate. Know your pace, never give up, try to catch up and you will be fast. Recognize your time of maximum assimilation, day or night and fix your study schedule; never follow friends to study when it is very inconvenient for you, you may just be the biggest loser, so be wise.
The exam is a test designed to measure the academic attitude of students to check their level of knowledge of a particular subject. Knowing full well that you have to pass to be promoted to the next level, why not give your best. Do not start studying too close to the exams, you will only be in charge of your brain too hard, denying you enough rest and putting your whole body system in a state of higgledy-piggledy. The information was stored over time and not spontaneously, no magic will magnetize the answers to your brain, so why not make sacrifices, burn the midnight oil, go the extra mile and do your best, stay healthy with a good diet and be punctual for all your exams. You don’t have to cheat if you played your role well because you will destroy your image and maybe you will get caught, the consequences are very severe, so be careful.
