Beautiful Saint Lucia!
WHY ST. LUCIA?
I’ll tell you why…
Santa Lucia is the perfect destination if you are after romance, rejuvenation or adventure. A genuine and natural landscape of stunning palm fringed beaches, miles of pristine rainforest and the majestic Piton Mountains are sure to indulge every taste. Natural waterfalls, breathtaking views, friendly locals and authentic culture impress the most well-traveled individuals for a vacation with lasting memories.
The perfection of this escape must be shared. Tropical weather, cozy accommodation and unexpected adventures await all who travel to this island paradise. Romance can be found in high-end resorts and intimate inns. Bask together under the Caribbean sun, sail into a champagne sunset, and snuggle under the vast starry sky. Discover a new romance and rekindle old love over a candlelit dinner on a secluded beach.
For those planning a family getaway, you can also visit Santa Lucia. Enjoy on-site water parks, children’s menus and evening entertainment for all. Adventure seekers can surf and sail in the pristine waters. ATV adventures and zip-lining in the rainforest are family favorites. Island tours are a must! That way, you can get to experience everything for yourself. Relaxation is not far away either with many resorts offering children’s activities so parents can enjoy a cocktail, a quiet hour together, or a couple’s massage. Take the kids, your partner and your sunscreen; This is a family holiday everyone will enjoy.
TEN THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ST. LUICA
1. Most flights and all larger planes fly into Hewanorra International Airport in the southern city of Vieux-Fort. However, most of the hotel rooms are located at the northern end closer to Castries, served by George FL Charles Airport at Vigie. Travel time by taxi from Hewanorra Airport to the northern end of the island is 1 to 1.5 hours.
2. Most of our people speak a creole based on French, or French patois, properly known as Kweyol, which is the only indigenous language of the Caribbean.
3. Although we were a British colony before independence, its city and place names are in French because our traditional educational system has been in the hands of the French-oriented Catholic church.
4. The two pythons of Saint Lucia – Petit Piton and Gros Piton – on the southwest coast of the island are classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
5. Honeymooners love our island because it is what a romantic tropical island should be: mountainous with numerous palm trees, dozens of tropical flowers including orchids, giant ferns and birds of paradise. Some consider Saint Lucia the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. I would not agree with them.
6. We have a genuine rainforest, which means it rains a lot in some places: About 60 inches on the coast and up to 160 inches in the interior of the rainforest. January to April are the driest months, with April being the driest of the year. From June to October is the wet period, with August being the rainiest month.
7. Due to the volcanic origin of our island most of its beaches are dark sand, not the sparkling white of the Bahamas or the Virgin Islands.
8. We have a surprisingly cold water temperature: Despite its deep Caribbean location, the water averages about 72-degrees F year-round, which requires a full suit or a shortie for most of the divers to stay comfortable under water.
9. Although the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, or EC, is the island currency, US dollars are generally accepted everywhere.
10. We have also produced two Nobel Laureates; both were born on January 23 across decades apart. The late Sir W. Arthur Lewis won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1979. The poet Derek Walcott won the 1992 Nobel Prize in Literature.
And two extras:
11. Most of the islands big hotels are all-inclusive. Some of our smaller hotels are known all over the world.
12. We have the only “volcano drive-in” in the world.
Then they went down to Santa Lucia. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
